Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Occupational Therapy Services:
What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational therapists (OT’s) help people with the things they need and want to do in their daily life. OT’s use everyday life activities, what we refer to as “occupations”, to promote health, well-being, and a person’s ability to participate in the important activities in their life. An OT’s goal is to help you participate in the things that are most important to you, which could include a wide range of different topics, from brushing your teeth to working a job, and much more. We can help you find strategies to make things easier, help you build skills, and make adjustments to your environment so you can thrive. At Green Monarch Therapy, PLLC we do this with a client-centered and neurodiversity-affirming approach that lets you be the guide of your own therapy.
How can Occupational Therapy provide value to a neurodivergent individual?
OT can help you engage in any activity that is important to you and help you accomplish goals that are important to you. Maybe your goal is to get a job that provides a quiet environment that meets your sensory needs. Not only can we help you get connected with resources to find this type of job, we can also help you develop self-regulation strategies that you can use if the job becomes overwhelming. During our OT sessions, we aim to provide a supportive approach that allows you to feel comfortable being yourself without judgment.
How would an OT appointment be structured?
Our first appointment would involve Zack asking you questions to get to know you, as well as developing goals for our future sessions. In each following appointment, we will use those goals to structure the sessions. For example, if your goal is to improve your sleep so you can complete your daily tasks easier, we might structure a session around sleep hygiene tips and self-regulation strategies to make sleep easier. Zack will always let you decide what you feel comfortable working on during a session. If something feels overwhelming, we can stop and switch to focus on something else, or we can stop and take a break. Zack is there to support you however you need it.
Can you describe your neurodiversity-affirming approach?
Our neurodiversity-affirming approach means respecting what makes you unique, and not making any goals or interventions to change these characteristics. All goals are focused on improving well-being and positive engagement, however that looks to you. All forms of communication are welcome during our sessions, and people of all backgrounds, preferences, and abilities are welcome.
Do you take insurance?
We do not take insurance for OT appointments at this time. We can provide you with a detailed receipt after each session if you would like. Sessions costs are $100 for telehealth, $120 for in-home visits. DDA waiver funding will be accepted for Life Skills services through the DDCS (see bottom of this page).
What area does Zack cover?
Right now, Zack serves clients all throughout Washington state via telehealth. For in-home visits, Zack serves the Greater Seattle area and surrounding suburbs. If you live far from Seattle, Zack may only be able to work with you via telehealth. Contact us if you are unsure whether or not you fall within this range.
